Philosophy - an endeavor to define the boundaries of knowledge of the world we live in, to synthesize the knowledge into an understanding, to question and refine our understanding so as to improve the way we live. The International Philosophy Olympiad (since 1993) for high school students, aims to bring about an appreciation for the subject and to foster critical thinking among the youth. India has participated each year since 2008. For details please visit - http://philo.abhinav.ac.in Selection of the team for the next IPO will be through the two stages of Abhinav Philosopher. The top two students will be selected to represent India. The topper recieves the medal while the top 10 percentile get a prize. There is no entry fee for any stage of this competition. However, the students selected for training or for the international event will have to bear the travel costs to & from the venue. Other costs will be handled by the host institution. Please note that although, Std VIII students are encouraged to participate (as a prep for future) older students will be given preference in selecteing the Indian team. | Scroll below for details of various rounds Open-Your-Mind - Logic & Language (Std 8 To 12) 22 Dec, 09:00 AM Ends - 03 Jan, 05:00 PM The first step in Philosophy is to train your mind to think rationally, without bias. Here we test the student in language, verbal reasoning & logic using MCQ & subjective questions. Some knowledge of Indian history, philosophy & culture would be useful. The student should research the answers well before submitting. The assignment should be submitted by email / post / hand delivery by the end date. Student may use English, Hindi or Marathi. Email / post should contain complete contact details (name, phone, address, etc.), date of birth & school details. Top 20% will be taken to the next stage. Critical Thoughts - Essay Writing (Std 8 To 12) 08 Jan, 09:00 AM to 12:30 PM Those who have a reasonable hold over language and reasoning, will now be tested on their capacity to present an argument. Student has to write an essay on one topic chosen out of four, within 4 hours. The topics will be declared to all participants at the time of the exam, via email / blog / SMS (if nothing else works). Students have to send the essay by email within the deadline of 4 hrs (15min extra for submission) Details will be told to the selected students in advance. If any student is unable to access the internet, we can make other provisions, if he/she informs in advance. The topper will be awarded the Medal and prize, while top 10 percentile will receive other prizes. Stage 2 Result - 24 Jan, 04:00 PM
International Philosophy Olympiad - (Std 8 To 12) 16 May, 12:00 AM This is the final stage of the Olympiad which is held in a different member country each year in the month of May. At the IPO the student is required to write an essay on one of four given topics (usually quotes by philosophers) wherein he/she should analyze the given statement and present a rational argument either supporting or opposing it, using appropriate examples, pictorial arguments, etc. This essay is then grilled several times by the jury and passes through 3 different stages of evaluation before it is awarded a medal or an honorable mention.
