A poet empathizes other people's emotions and is sensitive to things happening around. He is the able to express these thoughts in such a way that the insensitive may also empathize. These abilities are at their peak in pre-adolescence and then dwindle away. A poet requires to be able to observe imagery, pick-up the emotive details and be able to coin the right phrases to express them. Getting the lyrics to rhyme is only for enhancing the appeal of the poetry.
