The Singer must be able to express his/her emotions through the vocal chords, i.e. the words many a times do not matter and musical notes or other sounds may be quite effective. A singer has to enthrall the audience with melody while also provoking the appropriate emotions in them. Voice modulation, correctness of notes, clear & loud pronunciation of words or sounds, etc. is needed.
More credit will be given to a singer (G2 and above) who sings in different scales or chooses different styles of singing for different rounds. Background music often covers up the singers mistakes or may lead a untrained singer to sing on a different pitch or scale. Hence there should be no instrument played in the background. An unheard song of the broad type you prefer (i.e. western, classical, folk, movies, etc.) will be played to you 3 times. You have to then prepare for about 10 minutes and sing at least a stanza from the song. Accuracy of notes and rhythm is more important than getting the lyrics right. |
